Young Community Shaper finalist 2012 - Phumla...

Outside White River in Mpumalanga we met with the last of this year's finalist. Being so far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities has made Phumla realized that the people in her area have to be better educated in modern technology. That was one of the reasons she started a computer training facility.

                                                                Phumla at her desk.

The project started when she was in grade 11 and has been running for four years. She has a few volunteers and together they teach young and old from the community at no charge.

One of the learners getting to know the PC.

Being the drive behind this project she felt like she wanted to do more and so she started teaching and preparing young people looking for jobs in the necessary skills they needs. This includes preparedness for the interview, job hunting and preparing the necessary CV.

Some learners in the life skills classes.

This project has grow over the years and today they have 10 computers and train almost 50 people every week in the life skills and computer classes. Well done.
